A Quiet But Elegant Affair

Tons of my friends have chosen casual for their weddings lately. Of course, there's casual and then there's casual. The summer beach wedding can be glorious, if the weather cooperates and if the location is somewhat private and is suitable.  Of course, resorts that specailize in this sort of thing may be able to guarantee some degree of privacy.  the only trouble with those places is that casual is likely to go out the window in favor of expensive! As many casual styles and setting as there are, there are just as many casual wedding dresses to go with them. Personally, I love a truly casual affair where the bride has a natural look, is willing to recognize her strengths and plays to them.  It is, after all her day and she should be catered to.  Make sure the arrangements are really her and not some pushy relative or friend. I think a casual holiday wedding could be just lovely if done right. I know a couple of old world inns that would be delightful settings for a wedding and the casual theme could be promoted with appropriate clothes and arrangments.  Yes, yes I know I'm thinking of White Christmas or Holiday Inn, but I drool over those oldies!Having said all that, the choice of a casual wedding dress really depends on the palce, setting and theme as much as anything.  What's suitable for me may not work for you or the place you will be married from. However, lets pick a couple of terrific casual wedding dresses and let you decide whther or not they might work for you.

OK?The first casual dress I see is one at Nordstrom. It's in white.  Simple, elegant and downright classy without looking too bridal shoppy. The dress is a Sue Wong Beaded Gown with Deep V-Back. The beaded and scalloped embroidery sweeps across a silk-lined mesh gown, with sheer illusion insets at the deep V-back sides. Godet hem flows to a back train. It's almost not casual but I think with the right hair style and a judicious use of a few flowers could really be right for a winter wedding at a favorite inn in Vermont.  Huh?  Oh yes, their item # 206650 and the price is $488.  That's good, isn't it?

This next one seems to me to suit perfectly a second marriage where the bride is insisting on a low key celebration. It's almost a cocktail dress but not really.  Alex Evenings Lace Dress with Bolero. Satin peeks through a metallic-hued floral lace dress, accented with satin straps and an inset Empire waist above the slightly pleated skirt. Pretty scallops edge the neck and hem of the dress as well as the sheer, no-closure lace bolero. Item # 186166 and, get this, the price is an astonishing $152.  Don't say I'm not totally frugal!

Well one more.  This is a lovely gown for an evening wedding where the bride doesn't want white.  Still at Nordstrom's, its a  Tadashi Ruched Taffeta Off Shoulder Gown in pewter gray. Gorgeous ruched gown features an inset front and a slight train back for drama. The item # is 113786 and the price $508.
